Mission, Vision, and Goals
Mission
The mission of the Department of Health Sciences is to promote, maintain, and restore the health and well-being of individuals and diverse communities through leadership and professional nursing education, research, and practice service. The department aims to contribute to forming a young and competent nurse generation empowered with science, experience, professionalism, integrity, and ethics, able to adapt to modern society, and to use the acquired skills and talents to meet the needs of the local and global labor market.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Health Sciences is to create a center of excellence in nursing education that will be recognized for scholarship, innovation, and service in the preparation of professional nurses.
Goals
The following objectives are set in line with the mission, vision and values of the university. Most of these objectives are derived based on the code of ethics for the nursing profession – The Order of Nurses in Lebanon, and based on some well-known and worldwide-referenced universities.
- Educate nurses of different backgrounds to be efficient collaborators of healthcare committed to enhancing patient safety and improving the quality and outcomes of healthcare through evidence-based practice.
- Make professional judgments in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team using critical thinking and scientific inquiry competencies.
- Attain leadership capabilities in healthcare management and service delivery.
- Equip nursing graduates to adapt to rapid changes in healthcare delivery and practice while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.
- Engage in self-development, life-long learning, and research projects that advance nursing knowledge and best practices in disease prevention and promotion.
- Assess, identify, and develop plans to address community needs, and implement, monitor and evaluate these programs.
Overview
The Health Sciences Department at the university is one of the leading departments aimed at preparing qualified specialists in the field of healthcare. The department was established to offer advanced academic programs, including a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. It focuses on equipping students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills necessary to face contemporary health challenges. Through hands-on training in reputable hospitals and health centers, as well as participation in research projects and community health initiatives, the department seeks to develop a workforce capable of providing exceptional healthcare and promoting community health. The Health Sciences Department is considered an ideal platform for fostering innovation in healthcare and contributing to the improvement of quality of life
Students in the faculty gain direct field experience in education at some of the most prominent Lebanese schools and undergo practical field training as part of their specialization courses, under the guidance and supervision of specialized academic professors.
Academic Degrees
The Health Sciences Department at (USAL) offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Sciences.
Registration Requirements
- Must hold a Lebanese Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.
- Must take a placement test in the following subjects:
- Arabic Language
- English Language
- Information Technology
- Mathematics
- Sciences
- Must enroll in remedial courses if placement tests are not passed.
- Must register for the bridging courses required by the Ministry of Education if holding a technical baccalaureate degree.
Students holding a Lebanese “Technicien Supérieur” (TS) degree in Nursing are eligible to integrate the BSN program upon the satisfaction of the following:
- Submission of completed application form.
- Successful completion of Lebanese “Technicien Supérieur” (TS) degree in Nursing with an overall GPA of 12/20.
- A passing score (60/100) on Entrance Exam (remedial courses will be required otherwise)
- Successful completion of all prerequisite and required courses according to formal TS Lebanese equivalence decision 780/3/2013 sec. 16 Appendix 2 dated 1/7/2013.
Graduation Requirements
The major requires 61 nursing credits, and 35 core/foundation courses. In addition, the students must take 10 credits of University Requirements, of which six credits are electives from other faculties to make 106 Credits as Total Requirements.

Obtaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 over
Program Duration
- 3 years for non-transfer students, with an official Lebanese BACC II degree, who successfully pass their placement tests (English, Arabic, science,Math, and IT).
- 3 -3.5 years for non-transfer students, with an official Lebanese BACC II degree, who need some remedial courses (English, Arabic, science,Math, and IT).
- Transfer students’ study duration depends on the amount of transferred credits.
