The English Language Department at USAL equips students with essential skills to academically excel, fostering a supportive environment for new and continuing students. Pillared by the English Language Learning Center( ELLC), the department accompanies students if enrolled in intensive courses to advanced ones till the final project preparation, offering assistance in delivering written product accurately and oral presentations with confidence. Differentiated learning is offered for students, and assessment is tailored accordingly, maintaining critical thinking and research skills for life-long learning.
Instructors undergo ongoing in-service training and frequently peer coach themselves; they research updated topics in Education pertaining to Second Language Acquisition, harnessing AI tools to better inform pedagogical implications. Great emphasis is also placed on the overall well being of the instructors, grounded in the firm belief that this radiates in a classroom setting <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

ENGL 010:<\/b>\u00a0 This teaching unit is a compulsory subject -based on the placement test results- provided at USAL to introduce the first level of remedial English. It is designed to help students have basic proficiency in the English language skills. Students learn and practice Grammar, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills.<\/span><\/p>

ENGL 020:<\/b> This teaching unit is a compulsory subject -based on the placement test results- provided at USAL to introduce the second level of remedial English. It reinforces a set of skills taught in Remedial English I.\u00a0 The focus is on achieving specific communicative goals using advanced grammatical structures in speaking and writing.<\/span><\/p>

ENGL 030:<\/b> This teaching unit is a compulsory subject -based on the placement test results- provided at USAL to introduce the third level of remedial English. It aims at bridging the gap between Remedial II and English Communications Skills I. The focus is on critical reading across the discipline and acquiring research-related skills in writing.<\/span><\/p>

ENGL 201:<\/b> This course is designed to equip students with advanced academic writing and research skills necessary for success in scholarly environments. Students develop the ability to use academic English conventions in their writing and presentations.Through critical reading, analysis, summarization, and synthesis of scholarly articles, students will enhance their ability to engage with academic literature thoughtfully and analytically. Emphasis will be placed on producing well-organized academic papers using a problem-solution approach following APA documentation.<\/span><\/p>

ENGL 202:<\/b> This course develops public speaking and communication skills through practical activities and critical engagement. Emphasis is placed on research, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of informative, persuasive, and debates .
